Ian Moore

Owner, Contractor, Designer

The son of an architect and artist, Ian learned from his parents that everything humans build is based on a set of design decisions and that every act of building is worthy of careful thought. Fortunately, Ian also learned a love of the outdoors and to look beyond what humans can do for equal inspiration. As a result, Ian thinks expansively about landscape design; from the primary architectural elements, the planting and through to sculptural elements and furnishings. Ian also thinks intently about the unseen yet critical infrastructure elements of the project – from paving base, to drainage systems, to utility placement.

Ian brings a variety of insights and priorities to his work - an artist’s inclination, a builder’s practical problem solving and efficiency, and a trained designer’s penchant for internal consistency and excellence in detailing.  Once he is engaged in building a project, Ian provides clear and consistent guidance for his team at every step. He takes great pride in both design and construction and puts his heart and soul into every project.

Joshua Anderson

Crew

A father of three and Kansas transplant, Joshua moved to the Bay to attend the graduate program in English at UC Berkeley, where he realized he’d much rather work with his hands in the soil and sunshine. He was lucky to join Ian Moore Design in early 2020 and— having worked as a carpenter and truck driver prior to his late-in-life entry into academia— rediscover his love for building and his knack for troubleshooting. As a writer, builder and former academic, he is pleased to report that Spinoza’s claim that actions of the mind are not separate from actions of the body still holds water, and that writing and building have more in common than they have differences.

Jeremy Young

Crew

After growing up in Michigan, Jeremy headed westward to the Bay Area in order to further a career in artisan landscape construction. Joining the team at Ian Moore Design in 2020, already with several years of experience under his belt, his attentiveness and enthusiasm for crafting outdoor spaces is integral to each project’s successful execution.

Brian Wilk

Crew

A born and raised New Englander from Rhode Island, Brian has enjoyed life on the west coast for 16 years and counting.  From building tree forts with found wood and nails at an early age, to crafting furniture and other wood crafting projects later in life, it was a quick connection when Brian broke into the landscape construction field in 2016. He has not looked back since, with his lifelong love of woodworking and building continuing to grow. His passion for life and creativity are the guiding forces with which he guides his day to day life.
